One of the most rapidly advancing, as well as exciting career fields are those found in medical technology. The Department of Labor states that this field will continue to grow and advance for many decades to come. One of these reasons for this is that many medical offices, as well as hospitals, are moving toward more advanced software and technologies. This in turn, has created a demand for highly trained medical technology professionals.

These professionals can work with the actual hardware and software that is found within medical facilities. Others may work in laboratory scenarios to test and analyze specimens. For instance, crime scene investigators rely heavily on medical technology skills.

Medical technologist can work in other scenarios such as research labs, pharmaceutical research companies, as well as hospitals and universities.

Careers in medical technology will usually require a two- to four-year degree. Some states and localities may also require additional licensing and certification. Supervisory or management positions within this field will generally require a master’s degree or other such advanced degree.

There are online education opportunities for this field from such institutions Kaplan University, as well as Johns Hopkins University. In addition to an education degree, most students will be required to complete an internship at a medical hospital or facility.

Medical technologists will want to become members of the American Medical Technologists. Professionals will need to pass a certification process to enter this association; however, this group is nationally recognized and will help with job and career searches.
